Finally saw Ant Man earlier, and I was not let down. The movie was really fun and entertaining. I wouldn't say it's one of the best MCU films, but it's still damn good.

The characters were a mixed bag. Some, like Scott/Ant Man and Mr. Pim (Michael Douglas) were great, but others, like the villain and Scott's buddies were much weaker and generic. There was a part of me that felt that with Scott, the writers were trying to duplicate Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy at times, but oh well, he was still super likable, just wish they gave him more uniqueness. His friends/partners, while not unlikable, were just pretty generic and their humor was rather predictable. The villain, Mr. Cross, was the only character I found to be all-out bad. He was bland, and worst of all, he was just a whiney brat. His insane drastic measures are all fuled by child-like jealousy. Basically, the whole movie he's throwing a temper tantrum because Mr. Prim didn't fully trust him 30 years ago. Yeah...dude, you gotta get over it... The weakness of the villain does bring down the film a bit, but the rest of the cast is outstanding, and Abby Fortson, playing Scott's daughter Carrie, is freaking ADORABLE!!!

Some of the CG effects were a little poor looking to me, especially the ants, but a lot of the shrinking scenes and perspective shots do a great job of making you feel like you've shrunk with the protagonist. This super power, which may sound silly to some, actually makes for some of the most badass and unique action scenes of any super hero flick. While I do love action, I often find most action scenes in super hero films and action movies to be the same. It's usually your average cool and entertaining yet predictable and generic sort of stuff that's just there to keep the intensity going, but Ant Man offers an entirely unique and fun action experience. Whether it's chases, stealth missions or fights, Ant Man's power and style delivers an extremely fresh and awesome flavor, as well as making for some great comedy.

And speaking of comedy, this movie's full of laughs. Like Guardians, Ant Man is heavily comedy-based. At times, it can seem far more like an all out comedy and not a super hero film (learning it switched directors during production doesn't surprise me. The scenes with Scott and his buddies feel more like something from the Red movies, while scenes at Pim corp seem like generic super hero film scenes). While some of the jokes fall flat, there's still a lot of good laughs in this movie, and I feel their choice to go towards comedy benefits this film a lot. While WB or Fox would likely try to make a story like this dark and gritty (and probably full of highschool style political commentary) Marvel, as always, knows how to properly portray their properties. The concept behind Ant Man is so incredibly silly, and is even sillier when presented in live action, that including all the comedy (much of which plays off of the core concept) makes the film work so much better.Marvel is very good at being seld aware and knowing exactly how to best deliver each story. This movie still manages to have emotionally powerful moments and makes you care about their characters while still being extremely humorous. Hats off to you, Marvel studios.

The film also does a great job of keeping itself within the MCU.

So, yeah, it may have someweak points, but it's unique and addictive action style and visuals, along with its great humor and likable cast make it an extremely entertaining film, and another great addition to the MCU. Go check it out, it's loads of fun!

i prefer this film over the avengers movies and all that other stuff, i went into it thinking i might like it but might not like paul rudd who i usually find annoying and the same guy in all the movies he is in.
But no! it was more like he developed a likable character in this movie lol i didnt mind the villain. at least the suit he made was cool. all the suits were cool, damn good suits. i would say more but eh.
