The People of Bluffington by BrendanCorris The People of Bluffington by BrendanCorris
Who could forget the first Nicktoon? Doug followed the life of Doug Funnie, and usually pretty selfish/whiney, and damn crazy/obsessive kid and his experiences after moving to Bluffington. My whole life I thought these characters were supposed to be high school students until I recently saw it again, so I drew them all looking like high school students (can you blame me for thinking that? Roger and Chalkie look way too old and Connie has jugs). The final outcome of the picture is pretty boring. Just a bunch of people standing around, pasted on top of a background. From far away it actually just looks like some crap scribbled in a notebook by a little kid. Probably won't get many views.
So, the characters all are, Doug, the main character who I usually find myself despising as I watch the show, although his Smash Adams and Quail Man alter egos (among others) are pretty damn cool. His best buddy is Skeeter, who's way cooler than Doug. Doug usually seems to think of Skeeter as just some simple moron who's there to entertain him. I love that they made an episode where it turns out he's way smarter than Doug. Patti Mayonaise, the apple of Doug's eye, though he'll NEVER make a move as she's constantly throwing herself at him (Though, once again, Skeeter has no problem just casually getting the cute rich chick in school to date him whenever he wants). Patti's a jock and seems like she's usually nice to Doug because she feels bad for him. She's not supposed to, but it always seems like he's a charity case because he's crazy and stupid. Judy, Doug's older, art and theatre obsessed sister. Judy was also much cooler than Doug but he always treated her like she was an embarrassment even though she really never does anything but help his stupid ass when he's in trouble.
Roger Klotz, the bully of Bluffington. You're supposed to think he's a jackass but he was actually my favorite character as a kid. Boomer is... well, one of Roger's bully buddies. So is Willie, though he's also the mayor's son. Ned is also just another bully friend of Roger.
Connie, the shy, lovable chubbie girl of the bunch. For whatever reason she has a bit of a crush on Doug, though e's too busy being creepy-obsessed with Patti, and usually just ignores the crap out of Connie. Beebe is the richest girl in Bluffington. When I was a little kid I thought she was cute and sexy. She seems to be the most desired girl in the school by most boys. Kind of glad they didn't make her an all-out bitch like most rich girl characters end up being, though Doug still acted like she was. She liked Skeeter. Chalkie was the varsity, goodie-goodie student who basically did everything perfectly. Doug seemed to be pretty jealous of this dude. Al and Moo were some of the greatest characters introduced. They just portrayed the average nerd so well, physically and personality-wise. They also had a freaking awesome and catchy theme tune.
Larry, not the most important of characters, was a little geek in the AP club. Mr. Bone, the school's Vice Principal, was the law of Bluffington's school. Super strict and anal, Bone was totally over the top. Mr. Dink was Doug's wacky neighbor who always invested in new technology ("very expensive"). His wife, Tippy Dink, later becomes the new mayor.
Doug's still a classic, and it paved the way for a pretty solid few years of Nick.

Coming soon :
Rugrats
Ren & Stimpy
Rocko's Modern Life
and, maybe, Salute Your Shorts

The way you draw Connie reminds me why I always liked Disney's slimmer version over the chubby Nick version.

These are great! I loved watching Doug when I was a kid, and I would definitely watch a version with these versions of the characters.

Let me tell ya, Doug was THE show that introduced me to Nickelodeon. Everything about this show and its characters was a great sample of what the early Nicktoons had to offer.

Judy was kinda bitchy, kinda crazy, but she was always one of my favorite characters on the show. :D

Doug, Rugrats, Pete & Pete, Double Dare, and Salute Your Shorts were my introduction to Nickelodeon. What good memories.
Yeah, Judy was awesome.
