The Eeevil Mr. Dark by BrendanCorris The Eeevil Mr. Dark by BrendanCorris
I actually did the line work for this back in January (almost a year ago) but I was still pumped to draw today after finishing my last picture so I did this. This is my redesign of Mr. Dark, the villain from Rayman. I loved Rayman Origins, but I have to say, I absolutely hate what they did to this guy in that game. He was such a cool, sinister dude in the original PSX version. I did him the way I think of him, as some sort of evil voodoo witchdoctor crossed with a bandito. Hope you like it.

This is an absolutely amazing redesign of one of my favourite characters from the Rayman Franchise. I love how you've managed to update him to reflect on the new art style of Rayman Origins, yet you've managed to somehow make him more sinister than ever. The only criticism I can think of for this piece is that I don't really like the moustache, but thats personal preference so shouldn't really be factored in to the overall score I give this work. I love the details like the little rocks on his hat, and how you've managed to capture the feel of his original cloak without detracting too much from the Origins style. All in all, an excellent piece.
What do you think?

Rayman 1 and 2 are some of the most magical, creative games to me. Mr. Dark was such a legitimately intimidating, mysteriously cool character to me as a kid and he still is. Your take on him is beyond perfect. Great work. Inspires me to do some Rayman fan art soon. A truly underrated series.

Thanks so much. Yeah, I'm surprised how little love the series still gets. Rayman's always been a masterpiece.

I never really made it to Mr. Dark in the original version, especially since to get to the stage he's at, you have to find and break every single Electoon Cage, and I was never able to find each and every last one in the original game. Finding all the cages was about as painstakingly difficult as finding all the Yellow Lums in Rayman 2.
But from what I've seen of him, this does seem rather fitting, with the whole "Voodoo" thing.

Mr. Dark and his entire world were pretty damn hard. Finding the electoons is pretty tough but proudly I can say that any time I did it I never used any guides or help.

Neither did I resort to guides, though I was less successful. The Rayman series has been known to be some of the few games that were so hard, I could never manage to beat them, but were still enjoyable enough for me to make me want to keep trying and not ragequit so quickly.

The only exceptions of this for me were "Rayman Arena," and the "Raving Rabbids" series of Rayman though, but those ones were still good in their own way.

Never played Rayman Arena or any of the Rabbids games.

Such a cool redesign! Although you should know that the villain from Origins was not Mr. Dark, but a Teensie who became a fan.
