Description

Here's an old character of mine. Yeah, I'm actually drawing my own stuff for a change! Actually, this guy's really old. Stupid dates back to fall of 1992, shortly after I began the 1st grade. Although he was not the first character I created, he became my personal mascot for a while after that, so I often hold him in regard as my first major character. Later, in 2007, I revived the once senseless comic series and attempted to solidify it in a modern graphic novel. Though I really enjoyed making the book and grew attached to it for a few years, it was extremely flawed. I would some day like to once again redo it and fix all the problems, but, if I ever do such a thing, it will likely be a long ways away. The setup for the comic had great potential, but the actual story was lazy and empty. I tried too hard to cram desperate humor in, as well as adult themes like drug use and violence that had no real place in the story (I was 20, I tried to cram such things into every story I made). The comic didn't really have anything to say. The only messages portrayed in the comic were anti-racism messages, all of which were executed in an incredibly generic and weak fashion, and many sub-plots and characters who had potential to blossom into other morals, lessons, and stories just failed to go anywhere. I'v often considered the changes I would make if I were to redo this story over the years, and much of it has already been permanently altered in my head. I've even debated making it completely PG, family-friendly goodness, but it may need a little edge. Who knows.

Stupid, the titular character, was a free soul, wandering the land of Kawnk, leading a peaceful life. The beastios, the ruling race of the land, believed they had enslaved all living citizens of Stupid's race, who they refer to as "those things", for lack of a better name. When Stupid is discovered in the Kawnk Plains, President Lasher of the beastios dispatches his two top men to capture him and all other free "those things" that may be out there. After the beastios name him "Stupid" and throw him in the slave cell with the rest (all the "those thing" slaves are given insulting names by the beastios), he begins to fill his fellow slaves with hope and plans to break them free. Stupid is, well, a pretty simple and stupid guy. He may not be the brightest bulb in the box, but he makes up for it with heart and courage. Stupid pushes through impossible odds to help his people, even if he is physically incapable of going up against the tyrannical beastios.

For something like an eyeball character, when speaking in the terms of originality, the pool is somewhat small. But this, this is really something else<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>. The artist really nailed the "care-free simpleton" arch-type in this character, and the buck teeth is a really nice touch, it kinda reminds me of a certain Disney character, especially with those goofy expressions.

Another thing to state about this, is that his line work is really something, alongside all the other great artists i know. It really fits the character, in both design and personality, and his color scheme really compliments him, sweet work!
