Here's my redesign of Mr. Skops, the scorpion monster from the original Rayman. I always thought this guy was a badass boss, so I thought I'd try to make him even more badass. I tried to make this guy look dangerous, like every inch of his body is a death trap. Originally, he only had one pincer, but I found that design awkward and decided to instead make one huge, hideous and deadly while the other one is small and generally without purpose. Just felt like doing this after finishing Mr. Dark.
I have to say that that as an artist, you have fantastic style and vision, fully capable of taking familiar or beloved icons and rendering them in such a way that it retains the original's greatness while adding onto it your own flair and flavor. That being said, however, I do see some minor problems. The first and most obvious is that the picture is far far too busy. True, if you want a monster to stand out you make them as spikey, horrific and down right creepy as possible, but it takes several moments for the eye to actually find the flow of the animal itself. I had trouble determining where the body and legs seperated, and what part of the body was what. For a classic Rayman villian, you really captured the fantastic style of Ubiart for this baddie. An excellent work from an excellent artist whose style I feel should be given far more credit than what is usually given.
