Skadi

Me secod barbarian girl picture in one week...weird.
I've bleen meaning to do one for Skadi for a while, the awesome and hilarious comic series by Katie Rice (former member of Spumco) and Luke Cormican (they happen to also be boyfriend and girlfriend. That's the coolest relationship ever). I used to follow this comic every week on Dumm Comics when it launched in 2008, and continued to follow it until some point in 2010, also relatively close in time to when I got into Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as that dumb game became my life for a while. This comic was very addictive, though. We followed the ongoing quest of Skadi, the barbarian, and her slave, Diseasoid, to "eat of every meat". Just the main concept for the comic was so simplistic and funny. In its earliest insatllments, it was funny, but not as funny as it became later. The earliest comics have a handful of typos and the delivery isn't as good, but a few months in the comic started to get really funny. I think my personal favorites are "Bat Wing Surprise", "Weekend at Throk's", "New Rules", "Grund!", and the one where she has a dream about the spotted beetle, but then again, "Knobinski" and and the "Theology" ones are great, too... ah well, they're all good. I was pleased to see recently after checking that Skadi is still going on. Personally, I feel the artwork has gone a bit down hill recently in it. Though it's still good, the artists must have gotten so used to drawing the characters that now they are simplifying them or just rushing the comics faster. Either way, they're still good.
I did a quick doodle of Skadi and Diseasoid. Skadi's the main protagonist, obviously, and her quest to eat every meat leads her to embark on a plethora of misadventures. Skadi is super-cute. It's funny, she actually does such horrible things, but you can't help but laugh because she's just that cute, it only seems funny. That's part of the genius of the series, the dark comedy. Skadi's barbaric stupidity only makes her cuter. She's also super-hot. I never get sick of looking at Skadi's big, juicy butt. Skadi is a mix rarely ever done right, but done perfectly in this case. She's cute, hot, and really, really funny. People almost never pull a character like that off. It also helps that they have no shame making her a total idiot or making her do really gross things. I drew her in a pose to show off that ol' booty, of course. At the bottom is Diseasoid, a putrid creature called a "Bush Beast", and Skadi's personal slave. While he is disgusting and vile, Diseasoid is super nice and compasionate. Some pretty horrible stuff happens to this little guy, but once again, you'll be laughing all the while. Diseasoid develops a friendship and hidden care for Skadi's well-being over time. I feel this guy has one of the coolest and most original character designs in a while. He looks like no other creature and his design is simple yet memorable. Diseasoid may have it pretty rough, but, hell, I'd volunteer to be Skadi's slave anyday.
The movement and action in the comics is so fluent, I often feel Skadi would make a great animated show. Some of the jokes in the comics I feel would work even better if they were animated, but then it would also create weird points. Suddenly, all the characters would have voices, which is odd for a long-running comic where each reader envisions their own voices in their head, and Diseasoid's thought bubbles would be a hard thing to translate into a show, since he doesn't actually talk, yet he thinks of tons of dialogue throughout the series. If you haven't ever read Skadi, check it out. It's super funny and entertaining, and every comic page is a work of art worth framing and hanging.
