Earthworm Jim by BrendanCorris Earthworm Jim by BrendanCorris
If you didn't think Earthworm Jim was one of the greatest games of the 90s, you were an idiot. The perfect blend of totally unique and interested characters and landscapes, excellent and challenging platforming, and a gut-busting sense of humor (and games are RARELY successfully funny), EWJ was a masterpiece. And being that Doug TenNapel's art (EWJ most of all) inspired my style so much, it's only natural that I should do a tribute to everyone's favorite soil-munching annelid.
I'm incredibly pleased with the individual drawings, however, the placement came out quite terrible. The main focus is obscured and most of Queen Slug-For-A-Butt is going off the page (as well as covering Psycrow). Also, some of the details on Jim are a little off since it was drawn quickly. Oh well, I still love the way it turned out. I will post each step individually on my art blog soon and link it here. Check back in the near future.
In picture are - Professor Monkey-For-A-Head, Evil the Cat, Major Mucus, Chuck, Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt, Princess What's-Her-Name (one of gaming's sexiest females ever, in my opinion), Snott, Bob the Killer Goldfish and #4, Psycrow, Peter Puppy, and, of coarse, Earthworm Jim.
Enjoy.

I have seen many Earthworm Jim drawings but this is just what really define him.

~To start the colors use it this picture are extremely accurate, especially the colors used for Earthworm Jim.
The shading is excellent and sets the the mood just right.
~All of His greatest Foes are here including his long term nemesis Psycrow.
~The express of all the faces for amazing and close to the real thing.

~The minor flaws I see is the redness in Prof.Monkey Butt's cheeks and the fact that his ear look like a butterfly wing.
~Also in the very tip of "The evil Cat" mouth it not Completely colored the same as the rest if it, but it not that noticeable since you have to zoom up close to see it.

~I want be more then happy to give a 100/100 If it wasn't for the red cheek of Prof.Monkey butt.

~Other then that Its Perfect :D

Either that or a new game. I'd be cool with any one of those.

Earthworm jim was great, but it's like saying anyone who doesn't think Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time is a faggot.

So totally off the wall with the designs man; I don't think you can get any closer to capturing the essence of what the games were about than this. Absolutely spectacular; definitely worth a favorite, in my book.

Awesome pic, pal. The over-exaggerated art style lends itself rather nicely to the over-the-top antics of the EWJ universe, and perfectly embodies Jim's superheoric intents (and shows of Princess What's-Her-Name's curves at the same time. ;3 )

And I do agree that EWJ was one of the greatest gaming series in the 90s. It's really a shame that his 3D venture didn't go so well. :(

If Earthworm Jim ever gets an IDW comic book for some reason, they really need to contact you to do the art. Because honestly, you're the only person that remotes gets the insanity that it Doug Tennapel's brain

Ah, Earthworm Jim! Not only one of my most favorite games I've ever played on the SNES, but also one of the funniest cartoons I've seen on basic television. :XD: I really how you gave them all a sharp and edgy design, not to mention Jim & Peter Puppy's expressions. They're so pissed!

Thanks for sharing this tribute to one of the best game series ever; and sadly one of the more obscure nowadays. Where'd you go, Jim?
Err, any chance of a What's-Her-Name solo pin up? Heh heh...

Some of my fave obscure games would be "I-Ninja", "Pitfall: The Lost Expedition", and of course the 2002 X-Box shooter "The Thing". Very loose sequel to the 1982 movie. Good horror-style shooting except for the boss battles, which I freely admit are lame.

I actually am unfamiliar with most of those titles. I never played the Thing, but if it's anything like the 80s movie then it's got to be awesome.

"The Thing" for X-Box has some really fun A.I. in it that tries to emulate the 'who can you trust?' part. Although it can be very simple to get your teammates to trust you (just hand them weapons and fight alongside them), I did get a very original reaction from a NPC when playing once.
So the NPC in question is a guy with a flamethrower, okay? He's scared I'm infected but not sure enough to torch me and says (in true video game fetch quest fashion) that if I kill this big nasty Thing running around, he'll trust me. Well I, who lacks a flamethrower, have no choice but to agree. The Thing kills me back to the save point a few times and I come up with the bright idea of luring The Thing over to Flamethrower Boy so HE can toast it. It works.
Then the NPC yells (in full-voice too, the programmers thought of this): "You didn't fire a shot at it! I knew it! You're a Thing!" and toasts me. Back to the save point I go...
But it was darkly humorous.

That sounds like some pretty creative programing. If I remember correctly, the flamethrower was the end of the Thing creature in the original.
